The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral represents a branch of the Eastern Orthodox faith, which is a continuation of the First Century Church. The Annunciation Cathedral belongs to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh, which is under the authority of Metropolitan Savas, Presiding Hierarch of the Metropolis of Pittsburgh.

The parish was chartered by the State of Ohio in 1910. There were about 30 Greek families in Columbus at the time and they wanted to form a parish even though they did not yet have a church building or priest. Their own church would not become a reality until March 27, 1922, when the first service was held on the Sunday of Annunciation. Today, Annunciation has about 800 families on the church mailing list and an annual budget of over one million dollars.

Friends of Goodale Park

The nonprofit organization Friends of Goodale Park formed in 1987 in realization that the surrounding community needed to take greater responsibility to nurture and support Goodale Park. A devastating summer storm had destroyed many of the park’s older trees so the Friends raised funds to purchase over 300 trees.

In subsequent years, the Friends have undertaken many projects to restore, improve and maintain this gem of an urban park. Lighting, benches and trash receptacles have been added; a gazebo and expanded shelter house have been constructed; sidewalks and playgrounds have been updated, and more trees have been planted. To accomplish these improvements, the Friends of Goodale Park solicit donations and grants from individuals, local government, other organizations, and businesses.

Friends of Doo Dah produces the wacky annual Doo Dah Parade, which is a cultural legacy of Columbus and the Short North Arts District, known for its diversity and passion for art. Vibrant people march and express their unique humorous thoughts about social, political, civic, or other issues. Nothing and no one is safe from satire.

No other major U.S. city has a 4th of July parade quite like the Doo Dah Parade. The Doo Dah parade is free to march in or to watch, and no registration is required. The day is complete with an all-day free entry to the block party, with free live music. The Annual Doo Dah Parade will once again celebrate liberty and lunacy on July 4 at 1:00pm.

Doo Dah Parade is produced by the Friends of Doo Dah. The parade route lines up at 12:00pm on Park Street and at 1:00pm parades west on Buttles Avenue, south on Dennison Avenue, west on Collins Street, north on Neil Avenue, east on W. Second Avenue, south on N. High Street, and ends at W. Russell Street.

At Home by High

At Home by High was created by neighbors, for neighbors to provide support, connectedness and enable independence for adults 50+ in our service area.

We are a part of the Village to Village Network which started when Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood created Beacon Hill Village in 2002 to serve residents 50 and over by providing services and activities to allow them to age-in-place. Since that time, the village movement has expanded to over 200 villages across the nation. Each village caters it’s services and structure based on the needs of the area it serves.
